Current Inseam: 33 Inches
It would seem I'm on a veritable blogging frenzy today, which is not unlike a feeding frenzy, only instead of tearing seals apart with my multiple rows of teeth I just post more than once per day. But it feels similar.
One thing I forgot to mention earlier in my Star Wars ranting is something special and crucial and mind fucking all at once. Verily.
Today at work I was approached by my boss about possibly joining the "setup" crew. A "setup" is a guy who maintains the saw machines to ensure that the highly technical dimensions of the knives in the housing are cutting correctly. They also change out the knife wheels and set up the machines for different profiles of molding. They also get paid upwards of $16 an hour. I've been there a little over a month and already they want to promote me to one of the highest paying positions in the mill, and I'm not even technically an employee yet, I'm still a temp on loan until I hit 90 days.
Now normally this would be a no-brainer; less physical work, more responsibility, a lot more money. Here's the catch:
It takes a minimum of 18 months to learn the skills. Now with 18 months invested and another 6 or so putting the practice to good use I'm looking at about 2 more years in this suck hole little town with no life other than work and television. Lame.
Pretty much every one of my friends is leaving town in the next 4 months, so if I take the position I'll literally be on my own aside from the acquaintances I've made at work and that ain't much. But if the pay raise kicks in soon after the training then I'll be making $ hand over fist and I'll finally be able to make good headway on my loans and save up some for my "future" (whatever that is). But it means 2 more years of all work, no play, no girlfriend, no regular friends, no entertainment and no social life. Is it worth it?
My plan of moving up to Eugene includes some major factors that I feel will improve my quality of life, namely: social interaction with people my own age on a public basis, the ability to do all the shopping I need to without traveling 100 miles and the almost limitless possibility of meeting a girl. The latter is probably the most driving force behind the relocation. I've been single now for 14 months and I think it's time I got hooked back up. I'm almost 25, that's plenty of life to have spent alone.
So, Prose and Khan's:
Pros: Money and experience in a very narrow field.
Cons: I'll be 27 before I leave Lakeview, I'll most likely spend the next 2 years alone and living like a hermit in some dump with no friends and I'll probably eventually switch from microbrews to Coors Light.
Believe it or not it's a tough decision. I'm almost $40,000 in debt from college and I'm tired of living paycheck to ever evaporating paycheck, but I'd also like to live life like the bohemian Turk I am, and not become one of those leathery guys I work with who wears his grease and dirt stained Dickies work jacket on and off the job who's worked at the mill for 20 years and doesn't really do anything else.
Does anyone out there in TV Land have any advice for this handsome, single, sensitive, loyal, honest, caring, humble boy with the deep blue eyes and winning smile?
But more importantly, does anyone have any advice for this guy?

The better question is...do you really want to spend two years of your life in Lakeview (did that for WAY too long...thank God I got the sense to get the hell out of there) learning a skill in a mill that you will pray to God you never have to use again...because lets face it, the mill? Do you want to work the rest of your life changing saw blades at a mill? Run for the hills buddy!
