Blog 65: Postcards from the Blog

Tuesday, April 05, 2005

Lame title but it was a spur of the moment thing. I WILL maintain the trend.

What is it about reading other peoples anonymous secrets that makes you want to spill your guts and tell the world everything you've ever thought?
I'll spare you from my own but take a looksie here at this interesting idea.
Postsecret

There's also something depressing but altogether uplifting about reading hundreds of people's phantom confessions. It makes you take your own life into account and you begin to either feel better or worse about yourself. I've found myself laughing and crying at the same time sifting through these posts.
Group Hug

I don't know for sure the significance of this post but deep down I think that sites like these are important. People won't think of them as such compared to the other wonders of the internet but when you really think about the idea of a virtual wishing well that you can toss your hopes and fears and sins and pleasures into without the burden of judgement it begins to seem like an incredible vessel for mental release.
The difficuly in immersing yourself in a site like Group Hug is that after a while you begin to become overwhelmed by the pleas of countless nameless faceless masses and you begin to drown in their emotion and it can kind of shake you up a bit. You begin to wonder where all these people are, and when you realize they're all around you, that they are you, it connects you to humanity in a very unique way that I don't think has ever been around before.
